William Kent Eaton

In Loving Memory of

William Kent (Bill) Eaton

William Kent (Bill) Eaton, 81, of Pearisburg Va. went to be with the Lord on February 2, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Born March 22, 1936 in Powhatan, West Virginia, Bill was a diehard Va. Tech Hokies fan who loved hunting, fishing, remodeling houses, spending time with his family and going on beach vacations with his loving wife, Betty Jane Eaton. Bill graduated from Pearisburg High School in 1956, where he was a standout athlete in football and baseball. He enlisted in the Army out of high school and spent several years in Korea. He met his future bride in high school and they were married on November 27, 1959 after he returned from Korea. Bill was employed by Electro TEC in Blacksburg, VA where the family made their home for 25 years. At the age of 62, Bill finally retired from Electro TEC after 39 years of service. Bill was preceded in death by his mother, Paige (Greatmom) Eaton, father Preston (Pop) Eaton, Brother Donald Eaton and Sisters Peggy Body and Sarah (Bunny) Strole. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty Jane Eaton of Rich Creek, VA, brother Jerry Eaton of Pembroke, VA, sisters Francis Martin of Marietta GA, Jackie Bailey of Roanoke VA and Patricia Cass of Grand Rapids, MI. Two children, Lisa Zimmerman of Lake Villa, ILL and Kent Eaton of Winston Salem, NC. Grandchildren Drew Zimmerman of Lexington, KY, Jake Zimmerman of Columbia, MO, Matthew Eaton of Clover, SC, Marissa Eaton of Winston Salem, NC, many loving nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Bill was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to all. Bill loved working on things, anything. He so enjoyed figuring out how things worked. If you had something broken, give it to Bill. He would fix it. He was always there to help friends and family with whatever they needed him for. A special thank you to the Salem VA hospital Hospice unit for their loving care and support. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 11:00am at the First United Methodist Church in Pembroke with the Rev. Gary Poff officiating.
