Walter Raymond Martin, 74 of Pearisburg, VA went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 9, 2018 at Heritage Hall Rich Creek, VA. Mr. Martin was born on January 20, 1944 in Thessalia, VA and was a son of the late Jerry Fletcher Martin and Edna Dennis Martin. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Joanne Miller Martin, two brothers, Paul Rivers (Chic) Martin and Edwin Lee (Cotton) Martin and two nephews, Greg O’Brien and Christopher Fields. Mr. Martin was a retired employee of the Celanese Corp. in Narrows and was a member of the Angels Rest Baptist Fellowship. He loved to go fishing in the local streams and also at Garden City Beach, SC., and he was an avid fan of the Giles High School Spartans. He is survived by one son, Darren W. Martin and his wife JoyLeigh of Pearisburg, one brother, Jerry Dennis Martin and his wife Johnie of Fayetteville, NC, one sister, Edna Mae O’Brien and husband Tom of Pearisburg, one sister-in-law, Carolyn (Tiny) Martin, one grandchild, Dakota Edward Stanley and his wife Amanda, one great grandchild, Anamine Elizabeth Stanley, three special nieces, Haley, Kylie, Rylie Johnson and other several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 12, 2018 at 2pm at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg with the Rev. Craig Whittaker officiating with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg, The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home from 12:30 to 2:00 before the service. In lieu of flowers may be made to the Angels Rest Baptist Fellowship, Children’s Mission. Online condolences can be sent to the family at givensfuneralhome.com.
