Perry Roderick Stubbs, Jr.

In Loving Memory of

Perry Roderick Stubbs, Jr.

Perry Roderick Stubbs Jr. passed away in Concord, NC on Tuesday, November 29th, 2022. He was born on September 12, 1935, in Richmond, VA to Perry Roderick and Susie Evelyn Coleman Stubbs. His father was a Baptist minister, and his mother was a secretary, homemaker, and a devoted preacher's wife. Perry grew up in Essex County, Pennington Gap, and Christiansburg, VA. He graduated from Christiansburg High School in 1952, studied Biology at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond in 1959. It was there, in the Centenary Methodist Church that he met the love of his life, Brenda Jill Kiser, a nursing student from Keyser, WV. They were married in Keyser on December 21, 1958, and, after graduation, they moved to Pearisburg to begin a dental practice. The first office was on Main Street, next to the Pearis movie theater, up the "world's longest flight of stairs to the second floor above McLean Drug. Perry was a caring and skilled dentist and served many wonderful friends and families from Giles, Monroe, and surrounding counties in VA and WV for 31 years. He served a term as President of the Southwest VA Dental Society before retiring in 1990. Perry loved golfing and was an accomplished Tournament Bridge player which he enjoyed playing his entire adult life. Perry and Brenda enjoyed camping, taking their kids through 23 states pulling a trailer and seeing the sights along the way. It was camping that led them to the Florida Keys. After retiring, Perry and Brenda moved to Cudjoe Key (mm 23), bought a boat and conquered the waters of the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. They fished the back country, the flats, the reefs, and the Gulf Stream. They loved to scuba dive Looe Key Underwater Marine Sanctuary and snorkeled many other areas of the Keys. They kept coming back to Pearisburg every summer though because Perry needed to be in the mountains. Time passes, cancers and other health issues lead to life changes and Perry and Brenda moved to The Gardens of Taylor Glen in Concord in 2018. There they found many more new best friends and have enjoyed a full social calendar. Perry is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Margaret Sue Stubbs Atkinson. Left to remember Perry are Brenda, son Paul (Julie), daughter Jill, 5 grandchildren Aaron, Nell, Jacob, Van, and Luke. Other close family Mitzi and Fred Law; 4 nieces, a nephew and their families. A memorial service was held at Pearisburg Presbyterian Church on Saturday December 3, 2022, at 11am with the Rev. Leigh Ann Min and the Rev. Dr. Fred L. Austin officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:30 - 11am. If a memorial is made in Perry's honor, the family asks consideration of Pearisburg Presbyterian Church or Alzheimer's research.
