Mildred Irene Scott Hillsman

Mildred Irene Scott Hillsman, 97 of Pearisburg, VA went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 8, 2017. Irene was born on October 26, 1920 and was a daughter of the late Eddie Barr Scott and Iris Henley Scott. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Lieutenant Colonel James Earl Hillsman and one sister, Christine Scott Hylton. Irene was a 1938 graduate of Jefferson High School in Roanoke and volunteered for the USO during World War II. She was a charter member of the Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pearisburg and an avid bridge player and golfer. She was a member of numerous art groups, a member of Mt. Miss Garden Club and enjoyed traveling. She went to twelve countries and 48 states. She is survived by one nephew, Charles Hylton and wife Lawanda, one niece, Rita Hylton Amos and husband William, one great niece, Teresa Amos Kennedy and husband Steven, three great nephews, Christopher Hylton and wife Sarah and their son Christopher, Aaron Hylton and wife Kim and their children, Trinity and Annika and Kevin Hylton and wife Kim and their children, Matthew, Joshua, Jamie and Samantha. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 1pm at Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pearisburg with the Rev. Buddy Beaver officiating with burial following in the Evergreen Burial Park in Roanoke. A special thank you and sincere appreciation to all the care givers that made it possible for Mrs. Irene to remain in her home until she went to be with the Lord, Debbie Mays, from 2007 to the present, Kathy Higgs from 2007 to 2015, Terri Johnson, Dianne Huffman, Beuliah Gibson and Tiffany Sublett. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pearisburg. Online condolences can be sent to the family at givensfuneralhome.com.
