In Loving Memory of

Mildred Eads Groseclose

Mildred (Mickey) Alice Lucille Eads Groseclose, 97 of Pearisburg, VA passed away Sunday, March 3, 2013 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Blacksburg, VA. Mrs. Groseclose was born on March 25, 1915 in Chilhowie, VA and was a daughter of the late William Thomas Eads and Charlie Elizabeth Eads. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Edgar Brown Groseclose. Mrs. Groseclose was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church in Pearisburg and Giles Country Club where she enjoyed playing golf, bridge, and swimming. Possessing an artistic gift, Mickey adorned her house with paintings, occasionally entering a local artist’s exhibition. She and Ed grew many of their own flowers and made a practice of having fresh flowers in the house. But Mickey’s artistic expression is probably best remembered for her extraordinary talent to knit anything. For several years, she taught a knitting class at the local Leggett Store and always had multiple knitting projects underway in her home, the majority being gifts for others. Mickey had a great zest for life, loved the light of the sun, and saw the beauty of God’s creation all around her. While she will be greatly missed, she will always be known for her colorful stories and self-effacing sense of humor. She is survived by two daughters, Ruth Ellen Groseclose of Pearisburg, Dr, Edye Elizabeth Groseclose of Ft Lauderdale, FL, one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Edgar and Deane Davis Groseclose of Clemmons, NC, three grandsons, Mathew R. and Amadea Goresh Groseclose of Santa Monica, CA, David B. Groseclose of Anchorage, AK, Aaron T. and Christa Walters Groseclose of Elmhurst, IL and one great granddaughter, Elliora Ruth Groseclose. Services to celebrate Mickey’s life will take place at Givens Funeral Home in Pearisburg, Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 2pm with Dr. Brian Birch officiating with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home Thursday two hours before the service from 12 – 2pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Giles Rescue Squad, Pearisburg Vol. Fire Dept. or Good Samaritan Hospice of the New River Valley.
