Maxine Ellen Malchow Scott of Pearisburg, VA and Calabash, NC died on August 4, 2026 after an illness. She was born on June 12, 1947 in Montreal, Quebec Canada, the daughter of the late Max and Aneila Malchow. The family, including her infant brother Douglas moved to New Jersey in the United States in 1952, and was naturalized as a US citizen in 1958. Maxine graduated as Valedictorian from Hunterdon Central High School, Flemington, NJ in 1965 and was accepted to and attended MIT. In 1966 she married Walter C. Dolde Jr. and moved to Providence, RI to start a family. The family later moved to Pittsburgh, PA where she completed her undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. She worked for Gulf and later, when the family moved to Westport, Connecticut, she worked for GE. She received her MBA from the University of Connecticut and started her own company, Technical Marketing Research. Throughout her academic and career accomplishments Maxine also took loving care of her children Christine and willow, making home cooked meals, sewing matching outfits, making elaborate birthday cakes, and taking them to museums, plays, and hiking in the woods. After a divorce Maxine remarried a fellow engineer, Ray Scott, in 1991. Maxine and Ray moved to SW Virginia in 2003. Maxine switched careers and became an antiques dealer, having several shops in the area. Maxine and Ray enjoyed traveling in the early years of their marriage. Later they enjoyed the comfort of the beautiful wooded area of SW Virginia, reading books, working on crossword puzzles, and watching sports together. Maxine was a faithful and active member of the Newport Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church in Newport, VA. Maxine always enjoyed pets, both cats and dogs, gardening, cooking, and arts and crafts of all kinds. A craft that gave her much pleasure was making her own greeting cards and sending them to shut-in church members, friends that were sick, friends that were celebrating and just friends. In 2020 Ray and Maxine became Snowbirds, spending the winter in Calabash, NC.
Maxine is survived by her husband Ray Scott, children Christine Dolde (wife of Charles Jeffries), willow Dolde (parent of Liam Dolde and Allie Dolde), Jason Scott, Amanda Scott, brother Douglas Malchow (husband of Joan Malchow), and sisters-in-laws Raverne McLellan (wife of Edward McLellan) and Carolyn Burrier (wife of Steve Burrier), and Marilyn McAlack and the many warm friends she made in SW Virginia. A Memorial will be held for Maxine at 11:00 am on September 16th at the Newport Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church in Newport, VA. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to the church.
The family is being served by Givens Funeral Home in Pearisburg, (540) 921-1650; online at givensfuneralhome.com.
