Mamie Elmore Philpott

Mamie Elmore Philpott of Stuart, Virginia, formerly of Pearisburg, passed away Monday, October 6, 2014. Mamie was born in Interior, VA on June 22, 1922 to Lavester and Sarah Elmore. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Hayes Philpott; her brothers, Harvey Elmore and Russell Elmore; and her sisters, Nannie Elmore, Lillie Shrader, and Margaret StClair. She is survived by her son, Joseph Philpott and wife Carolyn of Martinsville; her daughter, Patricia Cooper and husband George of High Point, NC; her son, James Philpott and wife Jeane of Kyle, TX; and son, Ronald Philpott of Pearisburg; grandchildren, Ben Philpott, Sarah Philpott, Joey Philpott, Jessica Barker, and Brad Cooper; and great grandchildren, Wynn Philpott, Tate Philpott, Patrick Barker and Eli Barker. She is also survived by her brother, Edward Elmore and wife Sherry); her sisters, Ellen Elmore, Phyllis Lyons; and sister-in-law, Martha Elmore; and many nieces and nephews. Mamie lived most of her life in Pearisburg. She was a charter member of the First Christian Church, and in later years, a long time member of the First United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker, a knitter, and loved being a good neighbor and being a grandmother to all the children in the neighborhood. A funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 10, 2014 in the Givens Funeral Home Chapel in Pearisburg with the Rev. Dr. Fred L. Austin officiating with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg, with visitation being held from 9:30 AM until the service.
