Leona Ellen Dunbar Snidow

Leona Ellen Dunbar Snidow, 92 of Pearisburg, VA, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, December 14, 2013 at her home. Mrs. Snidow was born on November 15, 1921 at Laurel Branch, WV, (Monroe Co.) and was a daughter of the late Guy Richard Dunbar, Sr. and Carrie Clarkson Dunbar. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Philip Snidow, two brothers, Guy Dunbar, Jr., Marvin Dunbar and two sisters, Hazel Hicks and Shirley Rose. Mrs. Snidow graduated from New Castle High School in 1941. She then moved to Pearisburg to work at the Celanese Plant in Narrows. Later Ellen worked at the C & P Telephone Exchange in Pearisburg and at Sears. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pearisburg, was a member of the Wesley Fellowship Sunday School Class, the Lydia Circle and the Prayer and Share Group. She is survived by one sister, Juanita D. Shelton of Pearisburg, three nieces Rozena Holdren, Gayle Rose and Margaret Ellen Shelton, nephews Garnett Arrington, Bryan Rose, Rick Dunbar, Kenney Rose as well as several great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, December 17, 2014 at 1:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church in Pearisburg with the Rev. Dr. Brian Birch and the Rev. Dr. Fred L. Austin officiating with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home, Pearisburg, Monday evening from 5 – 7 pm. Memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 1101 Valleyview Dr, Pearisburg, VA.
