James Alan Houck "Jimmy" (63) stormed the gates of Heaven on July 14, 2023.  He passed away at Carilion New River Valley Medical Centerafter a hard fought battle with cancer.  Jimmy was born on January 25, 1960 in Wilmington DE to the late Percy Houck and Virginia Palmer.  Jimmy grew up in New Castle DE with his siblings Paul Houck, Larry Houck, Lawrence Houck, Janet Houck and the late Carol Johnson.  Jimmy also leaves behind two daughters, Jennifer Winczuk (grand-children Justin and Makayla) and Amanda Thomas.

Jimmy moved to Pearisburg nearly 28 years ago.  Once in Pearisburg, Jimmy established himself in the construction industry.  He worked for Cantrall Martin Construction for many years. Jimmy was very well rounded in all things pertaining to building, leaving very few things he could not do.  Jimmy was very talented and helped in many ways to beautify his hometown of Pearisburg.  Not only did Jimmy find his home and career calling in Pearisburg but a family left to cherish his legacy, Jimmy's best buddy "Brother" Barry Farmer, Diane, Justin, Katie, Jared, Beth and his little Farmer girl Jessie, and the five little ones.

Jimmy also found the love of his life in Pearisburg, Doris May and was called Papaw Jimmy to Doris' children, grand-children and great grand-children.  Jimmy loved working at the "little restaurant", and loved the Papa's family.  Jimmy was one of a kind and touched countless others whom he befriended and left to cherish his memory.  A celebration of Jimmy's life will be held at 3pm, Sunday July 30, 2023, at Angels Rest Fellowship with Pastor Craig Whittaker officiating.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St.Jude Childrens Hospital or Angels Rest Fellowship Church in Pearisburg, VA.  Online condolences can be sent to the family at givensfuneralhome.com.
