Herman (Hermie) Johnston Dennis

Herman (Hermie) Johnston Dennis, 68 of Pearisburg, VA, (Wilburn Valley) went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 11, 2014 at Giles Community Hospital in Pearisburg. Hermie was born on May 5, 1946 in Wilburn Valley and was a son of the late Herman Bayard Dennis and Willie Johnston Dennis. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Howard Byron Dennis. Hermie was a member of the Providence United Methodist Church in Wilburn Valley where he was the bell ringer, he was a long time participant of the American Red Cross where he donated over 20 gallons of blood, he was the gatekeeper for the Giles High School Spartan Football Team, a former member of the Giles REACT Team, and was a good friend, neighbor and helper to all in his community. He is survived by one sister Joyce Dennis, one brother, A. D. Dennis both of Pearisburg, an adopted sister Barbara Lucas of Pearisburg, special cousins, Martha Spicer, Edna Martin, Toni Dennis, Irvin Dennis and Dennis Martin and special friends, the Tony and Linda Meadows family. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, July 14, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg with the Rev. Ted Anders and Charles Henderson officiating with burial following in the Carper-Johnston Family Cemetery in Wilburn Valley in Pearisburg. A potluck reception will immediately follow interment at the Giles Rescue Squad in Pearisburg, Virginia. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home in Pearisburg, Sunday evening from 6-8 pm. Online condolences can be sent to the family at givensfuneralhome.com.
