Harold Meadows Lafon, 91of Rich Creek, VA went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 3, 2017 at his home. Harold was born on May 13, 1926 in Newport and was a son of the late James William Lafon and Nancy Stella Thomas Lafon. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by eight brothers and two sisters. He was a WWII Army Veteran in the Pacific Theater, a member of the First United Methodist Church in Rich Creek and a retired employee of the Celanese Corp. in Narrows with twenty-five years of service. Harold was a past Commander of the VFW and Past Commander of the American Legion in Narrows. He loved the outdoors especially trout fishing, deer and squirrel hunting and playing golf. Harold also loved his family and friends. He is survived by, his wife of 69 years, Eva Mae Mustard Lafon of Rich Creek, two sons, Harold Gene Lafon and wife Dee of Richmond, Daryl Bruce Lafon of Rich Creek, one granddaughter, Sheree Lafon Garnett and husband Jamie of Richmond and one great granddaughter, Lilly Garnett. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, November 6, 2017 at 1:00pm at the First United Methodist Church in Rich Creek with the Rev. Betsy Switzer officiating with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home Sunday evening from 6 – 8 pm. Full military honors will be provided by the United States Army Honor Guard and VFW Post #6000, and American Legion Posts #68, #311 and #145. Memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Rich Creek, Building Maintenance Fund. Online condolences can be sent to the family at givensfuneralhome.com.
