Elsie Louise Meredith Dowdy

Elsie Louise Meredith Dowdy, 83 of Pearisburg, VA went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at her home after a long illness. Mrs. Dowdy was born on March 26, 1933 in Doe Creek, VA and was a daughter of the late Raymond Leonard Meredith and Mary Brown Williams Meredith. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe London Dowdy and two brothers, Raymond Odell (Sonny) Meredith and Floyd Haven (Bud) Meredith. Mrs. Dowdy was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Pembroke and was a retired employee of the Celanese Corp. in Narrows with over 45 years service. She loved her flowers, the company of her family and friends and her dog Benji. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joe Randal Dowdy and Sherri of Manassas, VA, one grandson, Joe Brandon Dowdy of Manassas, four sisters, Helen (Margie) Scott of Pearisburg, Joann M. and Doug Eaton of Pearisburg, Dorence M. and Bill Simpson of VA Beach and Carol Jean M. and Sammy Morrison of Barboursville, WV and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Life will be held Friday, February 24, 2017 at 2:00pm at the Church of Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Pembroke with Bishop Darren Jones officiating with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg, VA. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home in Pearisburg Thursday evening from 6 – 8 pm. The family would like to give special thanks to Hadassah and Jody Simmons, Marissa and Andrew Brewer, CeCe Land, Jessica Simmons, Crystal Wells, Betty M.
