Donna Carole Martin Johnston

Donna Carole Martin Johnston, 66 of Pearisburg, VA. went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Donna Carole was born on August 12, 1950 in Pearisburg and was a daughter of the late William Donald Martin and Madeline Meredith Martin. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, whom she dearly loved, W.R. Johnston, Jr. of Pearisburg, one son Russ Johnston, his wife Brenda and her grandchildren Kiera, RJ, and Lulu of California, one sister, whom she adored and depended upon heavily, Celia Hardwick, her husband Jay, nephew Cris Hardwick and his family, Melissa, Jake and Aiden, all of Blacksburg. She also survived by her mother-in-law, June Johnston of Daleville, her sister-in-law Teresa Miller and husband Mac and their family of Roanoke and brother-in-law, Dr. Neil Johnston of Atlanta and many other family and friends. Donna Carole passionately loved Jesus and had a profound faith. She loved the fellowship of and serving in her home church, First United Methodist Pearisburg, and immensely enjoyed the fellowship she shared with her two new churches, Kathleen Memorial and Hales Chapel. She was a woman of strong faith and cared deeply about others, especially those in the church that were ill. A graduate of Ferrum and Radford Colleges, Donna loved teaching and had a passion for literature. Another of her passions in life was golf, especially when it involved her son Russ, the Akron Zips, the VA Tech Hokies, and the Giles High Golf Team where she was the unofficial Asst. Coach for 21 years. A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, December 3, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church in Pearisburg at 2:00pm with the Rev Dr. Brian Birch officiating. The family will receive friends Friday evening at the First United Methodist Church from 6 – 8 pm. Memorial donations may be made to any of the three churches listed.
