Dennis Bedford Lafon
Dennis Bedford Lafon, 79, of Pearisburg, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 30, 2019 at home surrounded by his family. Dennis was born on May 25, 1940 at Organ Cave, West Virginia and was a son of Louise Reid. Besides his mother, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Brenda H. Lafon, his dearly loved Granny Hoover and Aunt Mary, who helped raise him. Dennis attended First United Methodist Church, in Narrows, Virginia, for many years and served his Church faithfully in various ways and loved his church family. In his youth he attended Bethel Pentecostal Church with his Granny Hoover. Dennis was a veteran of the U. S. Army, was a 1958 graduate of Greenbrier High School, was an avid golfer, was a retiree of Hoechst Celanese after 38 years, five of which he spent in China. He took great pleasure in helping his brothers-in-law build a cabin at Waiteville, West Virginia for the enjoyment of family and friends. He also looked forward each year to planning and attending the annual Hoover Reunion at the Greenbrier State Forest. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Vickie Hale Lafon, two loving and caring daughters, Julie Ann Pauley and her husband, Tony; Mindy Sue Caldwell and her husband, Chris and son, Dennis Bedford Lafon, Jr. and his wife Anita. Six grandchildren, Courtney Lafon, Amber Caldwell, Katie Lafon, Zac Pauley, Casey Caldwell and Russell Pauley. One great-grandson, Corey Caldwell. One brother, Randy Lewis and wife Debbie, and niece, Valerie Fleck and nephew, Clay Lewis of Mechanicsville, Virginia. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Narrows Virginia with the Rev Doug Armstrong officiating with burial following in the New Zion Union Church Cemetery in Waiteville, West Virginia. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 2, 2019, from 6 to 8 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Narrows, Virginia Online condolences can be sent to the family at givensfuneralhome.com.
