Clarice Higginbotham Atkins

Clarice Marie Higginbotham Atkins, 89 of Pembroke, VA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at her home surrounded by family. Mrs. Atkins was born on May 9, 1926 in Princeton, WV and was a daughter of the late William Ray Higginbotham and Pansy Estel Jones Higginbotham. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry “Tommy” D. Atkins. Clarice played the piano for Lucas Memorial Christian Church in Maybrook where she was a longtime active member and for Heritage Hall in Blacksburg. She enjoyed traveling with family, quilting, Special Olympics, doing crossword puzzles and playing cards. The love of family was her life’s greatest blessing. Clarice is survived by her three children, Ronnie Atkins and wife Rose of Richmond, Brenda Young and husband Fields of Pulaski, Tom Atkins and wife Ann of Annapolis, MD, five grandchildren, Pam, Cindy, Heather, Katie and Andy, nine great grandchildren, Matthew, Lauren, Mark, Emily, Paul, Kierra, Dawson, Abigail and Charlotte and one brother, Dean Higginbotham and wife Betty of Peterstown, WV and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. A celebration of her life will be conducted on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 11:00am at the First United Methodist Church in Pearisburg with the Rev. Mellissa Smith officiating with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home Friday evening from 6 – 8 pm.
