Betty Ann Woodyard Croy

In Loving Memory of

Betty Ann Woodyard Croy

Betty Ann Woodyard Croy of Pearisburg, VA. passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2014 in Pearisburg at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, where she had resided since December. Betty was born August 13, 1932 to Fred Luther and Mary Elizabeth Henderson Woodyard. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lowell Darrell “L. D.” Croy, and a brother, Wallace Woodyard. Betty is survived by two devoted daughters and their husbands, Barbara Croy Vesely (Chris) of Collierville, TN, and Beth Croy Ballard Tanner (Frank) of Pearisburg. Also surviving are three grandsons whom Betty adored: Hampton Ballard of Bradenton, FL, Reid Ballard of Pearisburg, and Nathan Tanner (Sierra) of Hinton, WV. Betty is survived by her sister, Amy Woodyard Lucas of Pearisburg, and her brother, Carl Woodyard of Johnson City, TN, as well as four nieces and a nephew (Deborah James, Lisa Swope, Freddi Hatcher, Leslie Lucas, and Steve Woodyard). A life-long resident of Giles County and a Methodist, Betty was an active member of the Pearisburg First United Methodist Church since 1951. She was a co-founder of the Willing Workers Sunday School class, a member of the New Friendship Circle, and part of the church’s Eternal Flame team for the Relay for Life. Betty was a graduate of Pearisburg High School and a telephone operator for C&P from 1953-1966. For almost forty five years, Betty was known by many in Pearisburg as the Avon Lady. Her service was honored by Avon with a membership in its President’s Club. Besides her love for family, her church, and her work, Betty will be remembered as a good and kind person who enjoyed her friends, her cats, and the birds that congregated in her backyard. Those to whom Betty was dear are comforted to know that love transcends death, and to realize that now Heaven is even more beautiful because she is there. Memorial service for Betty will be held at First United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. The family will receive friends two hours before the service. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church at 1101 Valleyview Drive in Pearisburg. The family wishes to thank Carilion Hospice for its amazing support during the final months of Betty’s illness. We appreciate the kindness and care each and every member of hospice extended to Betty and her family. Online condolences can be sent to the family at givensfuneralhome.com.
