Bernadette LeClerc (Frenchie) Martin

Bernadette LeClerc (Frenchie) Martin, 92 of Ripplemead, VA went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Highland Ridge Nursing Home in Dublin. Mrs. Martin was born on July 9, 1925 in Reims, France and was a daughter of the late Ferdinand Auguste LeClerc and Maria Pettinger LeClerc. Besides her parents, she was preceded by her husband James Melvin Martin, Jr., two brothers and two sisters all of Reims, France. During WWII, Frenchie was a nurse in her hometown of Reims and met Jim Martin, Jr. while he was serving as a medic and ambulance driver for the U.S. Army. They married in Reims in 1945 and came to the United States in 1946. She continued nursing working at Giles Memorial Hospital for over 30 years and then retired from the Celanese Corp. in Narrows working in several departments. Frenchie was very proud of being a nurse and becoming a U.S. citizen in the early sixties. She loved her family and friends and lived life to the fullest. She is survived, by one son, James Michael (Jimbo) Martin and wife Debra, two daughters, Nicole Martin Quinn and husband Cecil of Chesapeake, Cynthia Martin Widrig of Ripplemead, three granddaughters, Misty Seda-Morales and husband Ben of Virginia Beach, Autumn Snider and husband Logan of Pembroke, Journie Widrig of Ripplemead and one great granddaughter, Leeya Seda-Morales. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Pembroke Stake, Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 2pm with Bishop Darren Jones officiating with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the church two hours before the service from 12 – 2pm. Online condolences can be sent to the family at givensfuneralhome.com.
