Jack Edward Gordon

GORDON, JACK EDWARD, 88 of Pearisburg , VA passed away, Thursday morning, February 21, 2008 at Riverview Nursing Home in Rich Creek, VA.  Jack was born on March 4, 1919 and was a son of the late James A. and Virginia Tabor Gordon.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ola Mae Ratcliffe Gordon, his second wife, Ruby Clement Seldomridge Gordon, three stepdaughters, Shirley, Bonnie and Martha.  Jack was a WWII Veteran having served in the Navy in the Pacific and Atlantic theaters from 1940-1947, as a Gunner’s Mate 1st Class and was a recipient of the Purple Heart twice.  He served on the USS Chester, which was an escort for the USS Enterprise.  After the war, he made his home in Pearisburg.  He was employed at the RAAP in Radford for 30 years.  He was member of Giles Lodge #106 A.F. & A.M. in Pearisburg for more than 50 years and was a Past Master.  He was a life member of the VFW and was a member of the First Christian Church in Pearisburg.  He is survived by two stepdaughters, Wanda S. Anderson and Sandra S. Stephens and her husband Rusty all of Wilson , NC . his sister, Iris G. and Husband David H. Farmer, a special niece, Judith G. Blackwell and her husband Clyde , seven other nieces and three nephews.  Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, February, 23, 2008 at 11:00 am at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg with the Rev. Bill Sleasman officiating with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg.  The family will receive friend at the Givens Funeral Home Friday from 5 – 7pm with a Masonic memorial at 6:30pm. . A full military service will be conducted at the gravesite by the VFW Post # 6000 in Narrows, and American Legion Post #68 in Narrows and # 311 in Pembroke.  The family gratefully appreciates the care our loved one received at Wheatland in Christiansburg, and a special thanks to Peggy C. Kessler who took a special interest in his health and “went the extra mile” for him.  Heartfelt thanks also to Riverview Nursing Home for their wonderful and compassionate Care.  Condolences can be sent to the family at givensfuneralhom.com.
