Nancy Sue Blackburn Dowdy

Nancy Sue Blackburn Dowdy, 83, of Pearisburg, VA. went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 3, 2020 at her home surrounded by her family. Nancy was born on January 10, 1937 in Covington and was a daughter of the late Claude Winthrop Blackburn and Louise Jeanette Ginn. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Blackburn. Nancy was a graduate of Narrows High School, she received her nursing degree from Lewis Gale School of Nursing in Roanoke. She was employed as a Registered Nurse at the Celanese Corp in Narrows, Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg and was the Nurse instructor at Giles Vocational School for thirty years. She was a longtime active member of the First Christian Church in Pearisburg, she loved music, playing the piano and singing in the church choir. She loved the company of her family, grandchildren, great grandchildren and her friends. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Joe "Joe Bud" Linwood Dowdy of Pearisburg, two daughters, Pamela D. Bishop (Jeff), Joyce D. Ratcliffe (Mike), son, Bart E. Dowdy all of Pearisburg, four grandchildren, Josh Bishop (Monika), Amanda Udicious (Chris), Kayla Perdue (Michael), Max Ratcliffe (Toni) and six grandchildren, Hayley, Aiden, Jakob, Lana, Jaxson and Braxton, two sisters, Virginia "Gee Gee" Brown of Roanoke, Becky Woodyard (Ronnie) of Narrows, a special aunt, Charlotte Ginn of Covington and many, many special friends. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, February 6, 2020 at 11:00am at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg with Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg.
