In Loving Memory of

Rev. George Rowland Peters

PETERS, THE REV. GEORGE ROWLAND, Sr. of Pearisburg, passed away Saturday morning May 5, 2007, at his home in Pearisburg , VA following a brief illness.  Mr. Peters was born on September 26, 1926 in Appalachia , VA and was a son of the late Dr. William Birdwell (W.B.) Peters and Georgia Harmon Peters.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Carl H. Peters, Sr. Herbert Peters, William Peters and one nephew, Carl H. Peters, Jr. Mr. Peters attended V.P.I. and graduated from Emory & Henry and Seminary of the University of the South in Sewanee , TN.   Mr. Peters serviced churches in Galax, VA, Monroe , NC , Shreveport and Hammond , LA.   Mr. Peters took early retirement for health reasons.  He was also past executive director of the United Way of Giles County , taught chess to Giles County School students for many years and was a member of the Pearisburg Kiwanis Club.  He is survived by his wife, Nancy Morris Peters of Pearisburg, one daughter, Susan P. & husband Shawn Croy of Eggleston, VA, two sons, George R. & Anita Peters, Jr. of Peterstown, WV, Stephen Peters of Narrows, four grandchildren, Ben, Mitchell and Karlie Peters and Logan Croy.  Funeral services will be conducted Monday, May 7, 2007 at 1:00 pm at the Christ Episcopal Church in Pearisburg with the Rev. Bob Copenhaver assisted by the Rev. Caroline Kramer officiating with interment following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg.  The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home in Pearisburg, Sunday evening from 6 – 8pm.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Christ Episcopal Church in Pearisburg,  Online condolences can be made to the family at givensfuneralhome.com.
