George Edward Donovan
DONOVAN,
GEORGE EDWARD (ED), 81 of
Pearisburg
,
VA
passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at his home.
Mr. Donovan was born in
Princeton
,
WV
on March 26, 1925 and was a son of the late George C. and Florence
Woodyard Donovan.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Jack
Donovan.
Mr. Donovan was WWII Army Air Force Veteran, and served as a radio
operator in a bomber squadron in the European Theater, a retired Civil
Servant, a member of the Pearisburg Volunteer Fire Department for over 20
years, a member of the Pearisburg Lions Club with 43 years perfect
attendance, past president of the Lions Club, past Lion of the Year and a
recipient of the Melvin Jones Award.
Mr. Donovan was a member of the
First
United
Methodist
Church
in Pearisburg and a member of the VFW Post 6000 and American Legion #68 in
Narrows
,
VA.
George is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty Bingham Donovan
of Pearisburg, one daughter, Becky Donovan Paule and husband Lane of
Anchorage, AK, two sons, David Donovan and wife Anne of Eagle Rock, VA,
Steven Donovan and wife Judy of Roanoke, VA, seven grandchildren and seven
great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at the
First
United
Methodist
Church
in Pearisburg, Saturday, January 27, 2007 at 11:00am with Dr. Fred L.
Austin officiating.
The family will receive friends at the Church from 10:00 to 11:00am
before the service.
Memorial donations may be made to the Pearisburg Vol. Fire Dept,
the Pearisburg Lions Club or to a charity of your choice
